There is perhaps no greater tool for artistic expression than the use of color. The use of color captures the mind and stimulates the senses to evoke emotion. The enigma of color, from metallurgy, to finishes, to texture and gemstones has aided artistic expression in the jewelry industry for centuries. So what is new? Starting with the physics of color, this paper explains how we perceive the emotion and nuances of color and provides an outline for various color-related technologies and techniques including the use of nanotechnology to manipulate the colors we incorporate into future jewelry designs.
